West Texas-born Kimmie Rhodes began her singing career at the age of six with her family gospel trio. Now her timeless songs have earned her a broad fan base across the U.S. and Europe. Nelson calls her "an undiscovered superstar," and together they recorded two of her original songs for his album, Just One Love. Other performers also recognize Rhodes' songwriting talent. Both Wynonna Judd and Trisha Yearwood have recorded her songs. Her release, West Texas Heaven, affirms her role as a premier Texas songstress and includes duets with Jennings, Nelson and Townes Van Zandt.

Since the 1973 release of his debut recording, Old Five And Dimers Like Me, Billy Joe Shaver has been recognized by his fellow artists as one of the most respected songwriters of our time. His songs have been covered by an impressive list of performers including Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Elvis Presley, The Highwaymen, Patty Loveless, and Marty Stuart. Shaver grew up in Corsicana, Texas, and moved to Nashville in the late 1960s. While his own records didn't top the charts, Shaver had an undeniable influence on country music. Billy Joe Shaver has lived through some hard times this decade. His mother and wife died within a month of each other in 1999. His son Eddy -- a guitarist who performed and recorded with Shaver -- died in 2000. Then Shaver's own health problems culminated in a massive heart attack right on the Gruene Hall stage. (Shaver finished the show and went in the next day for open heart surgery). Resilient, more spiritual than ever, BJS is continuing with the life that God has given him, and in a big, big way........

Canadian Fred Eaglesmith has been recognized as one of the finest songwriters and performers on the alt. country scene. His live performances have been compared to Bruce Springsteen and Steve Earle for the juxtaposition of manic energy, quiet intensity, humor, and sadness. Since first hitting the road in 1996, Fred Eaglesmith and his band have received critical acclaim from almost every major and minor newspaper in Canada and the U.S., and have gained one of most devoted fan bases since the Grateful Dead. Fred has won a Juno award (the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy) and the list of artists covering his songs includes The Cowboy Junkies, Kasey Chambers, and Dar Williams.

A bonafide honky-tonk hero, Ray Wylie Hubbard has long been regarded as one of country music's most intelligent voices, pushing the envelope at every turn, all the while making music that is honest and uncompromising. After a successful run in the 70's, the "Redneck Rock" era, RWH, in the 2000's, has made one of the most successful comebacks in the history of Texas music. In 2003, Ray Wylie Hubbard released Growl. This album is an exciting achievement from Hubbard, and features the song that has earned him a good deal of air play, "Rock n' Roll is a Vicious Game" and a long-standing spot on the Americana charts. If one wanted to describe the sound of Ray Wylie Hubbard, one could call it American music, born from the timehonored traditions of folk, country and roots rock. Or, as Woody Guthrie once said, "It's all folk music, 'cause it's played by folks.''

The Waybacks may prove the seminal jamgrassers. The San Franciscans have superhumanly fleet fingers, minds wide open, a sense of humour, real spark & ‘no respect whatsoever for standard operating procedure’, as Rick Anderson approvingly wrote in Bluegrass Unlimited. From newgrass and western swing to jug band and jazz, from folk and fiddle music to improvisational excursions that defy categorization, Waybacks music is wild, energetic and unpredictable. With their stellar musicianship and innate sense of adventure, they stand in good company with the few bands at the forefront of New American acoustic music.
