Free Friday and Saturday Night Shows in September!

Billy Bacon, Seth Walker, Paula Nelson

It's not often that you can go out on a Friday or Saturday night and hear quality music for free. But a few times a year, Gruene Hall provides just that.  Friday, Sept. 7th,  Billy Bacon and the Forbidden Pigs return to Gruene Hall for a night of country-TexMex-rock-a-billy music and bass jumping antics. It's good family fun, so come on out!  Show starts at 7:30.

Seth Walker returns to the Hall on Friday, Sept. 14th.  His guitar playing is reminiscent of styles like B.B. King and T-Bone Walker, and Seth also has a knack for songwriting that gives his music a sound all his own. You can hear some of his music on his website, then come out and hear him live at the Hall on Sept. 14th.  Austin-based singer-songwriter Wendy Colonna opens the show at 7:30 pm.

Paula Nelson, daughter of Willie, made her Gruene Hall debut this summer, and blew everyone away with her original music.  It's obvious that some good genes have been passed on to her by her famous father, but she walks in her own footsteps. She's written some amazing songs, and her stellar band performs them beautifully. We are offering you this chance to hear her on a Saturday night for free, so don't hesitate. It won't be long before she will be headlining major venues herself!  Saturday, Sept. 15th.  Show starts at 8 pm.

Gruene Hall's best kept secret for country music takes place on the last Saturday of each month when Gary Claxton, Erik Hokkanen, and Friends take the middle stage for the 1-5pm show.  Claxton, the lead singer for Heybale, has smooth as silk vocals that are backed by his hot guitar playing and a variety of special guests, including Tom Lewis (Raul Malo), Kevin Smith (Dwight Yoakam), former Gilley's bandleader Billy Dee, Cindy Cashdollar (Asleep at the Wheel), and Earle Poole Ball (Johnny Cash).  The band features one of the world's greatest fiddle players, Erik Hokkanen. Old country standards are made fresh, and some great original songs make up the set list. If you haven't made it out for this one, their next show is Sept. 29th. No cover charge!

The 4th Annual Texas Metal Arts   festival is a gathering of select Texas artists to showcase and sell a wide range of metal arts. Almost 30 artists are participating in this year's festival and are bringing with them a wide array of finished works from soaring, outdoor metal sculpture to delicate jewelry. Having traveled from the four corners of Texas to meet in Gruene, these artists bring diverse perspectives on how they define the metal arts. Every artist contributes both fresh insights and varied executions. Although metal is the thread that binds the event together, you'll be delighted and intrigued by the variety of textures, finishes, scale, and yes, sounds, evident this weekend.  Join in the celebration. Ask questions. Discover the sweat and fire behind the art. Then leave with a distinctive piece for your home, office, or wardrobe.  For more info go to  http://www.texasmetalarts.com

Since Jimmie Vaughan first formed The Fabulous Thunderbirds with Kim Wilson in 1974 over 30 years ago, The Fabulous Thunderbirds have been the quintessential American band. Just their sheer power in sound, influenced by a diversity of musical styles, produces such hits as "Tuff Enuff" and "Wrap It Up".   Wilson, the sole original member, still spearheads the group as it has evolved into its newest incarnation. In addition to Wilson, the current Thunderbirds line-up features Kirk Fletcher on guitar, Ronnie James Weber on bass, Jay Moeller on drums. Johnny Moeller has recently joined the band on guitar, replacing Nick Curran. Just in from a recent tour of Germany, Italy, England, Norway, Switzerland and France, The 'Birds are glad to be back in Texas. Making the show even more special,  Tyrone Vaughan,  son of Jimmie Vaughan, will open the show!  get tickets
