Joe Ely  Sat. Sept. 30th  Get Tickets

Originally from Amarillo, Texas, Texas legend Joe Ely brings his stellar rock band to the stage of Gruene Hall on Sept. 30th. We stumbled upon some little known facts about Joe recently, including that he actually rode a motorcycle down the hallways of Monterey High School on the first day of his freshman year, and later got kicked out of the same school for singing "Cherry Pie" at a school assembly! And that he joined the Ringling Bros. Circus in 1974 and took care of the llamas and the world's smallest horse, as well as Arabian and Belguim horses, coming close to death after being kicked unconscious by one of them. You can find these and other little known facts about Joe Ely's history in the FAQ section on his website here.  ...... And the rebel rocks on, so don't miss his show this Saturday night! The Heathens open the show at 9 pm. GET TICKETS on-line or call 830-629-5077.

Ezra Charles
*********************

Ezra Charles     Fri. Oct. 13th   (tickets at the door only)

Ezra Charles is Houston's best known keyboardist, playing original boogie-woogie, swing, rock-a-billy and blues tunes. He draws his originality off of influences like the legendary Texas soul men of the 40s & 50s .......T-Bone Walker,  Lightnin' Hopkins -and piano men like Leon Russell and Professor Longhair, who showed Charles how to make the piano cry, wail and jump. When Ezra Charles performs, he wears red and blue suits, spikes his blonde hair, and sets the fiberglass top of his piano on fire. That itself is  worth the price of the ticket! Come see him and pick up a copy of his new CD, "Blues Lover", at his Gruene Hall CD-release on Oct. 13th!

Stoney LaRue
*********************

Stoney LaRue      Sat. Oct. 28th  (tickets at the door only)

Every once in awhile, a new act will come along that stands out from the rest. Taking his Americana influences and weaving them in with what comes natural to him, Stoney LaRue is one of those that stands out. His rootsy mixture of blues and roots rock, combined with stellar songwriting and a captive voice, is catupulting Stoney up to the top of the heap in a fast way. Stoney's newest project, a "Live at Billy Bob's" CD/DVD is due out on Oct. 24th, a follow up from his last critically acclaimed release, "The Red Dirt Album". Come pick one up at the show or visit Stoney's website for more information. Tickets are available at the door only for this one.

October Afternoon Shows at the Hall

Afternoon Shows

Billy Bacon & the Forbidden Pigs

America's favorite animal band, Billy Bacon & the Forbidden Pigs, return to Gruene Hall for a free show on Sunday, Oct. 1st (5-9 pm). Whether he’s doing daredevil jumps off the bass fiddle, crooning a heartfelt ballad or leading his troupe of seasoned musicians into an authentic Mexican norteña classic, Billy Bacon (and The Pigs) are a true cultural shakeup, as well as top notch players and vocalists. No cover charge - come see them in action!

The Heathens

You've heard us talk about The Heathens, and now you can spin them on your CD player, as they release their debut CD at Gruene Hall on Oct. 15th (5-9). We had a great summer of Monday night live shows with the band, and their new CD, which was recorded live at Momo's (Austin), is already receiving critical acclaim, and for good reason. Just like at their shows, all of the songs on the CD are great.  Their website has 4 songs off the album for you to sample, and that should be enough to convince you to come out of the 15th to get the full CD and a dose of a Heathens live show! No cover charge!

White Ghost Shivers

Reminiscent of the vaudevillish Asylum Street Spankers, who played here in the 90's, The White Ghost Shivers make their Gruene Hall debut on Saturday, Oct. 21st (1-5 pm). Winners of the "Best None of the Above" band at this years Austin Music Awards contest, the band plays "string band music from the 20's and 30's, mixing early jazz, hokum, vaudeville, ragtime, western swing, and hillbilly, while at the same time unleashing the gutterous underbelly of a pseudo-rock world gone wrong...."  This will be fun so don't miss 'em - and it's a free show!

Guy Forsyth

Speaking of the Asylum Street Spankers, Guy Forsyth first came to Gruene Hall as the lead Spanker, playing to packed houses after only one show. He's one of the most talented musicians in Texas and if you've caught either of his performances this year, you are sure to agree. Sunday afternoons are always special and Oct. 22nd (5:30-9 pm) will be extra special with the Guy Forsyth Band supplying the entertainment. (Check out pictures from his January 2006-Sunday show here) Best of all, there's no cover charge!
