........Wednesday,
Nov. 22nd (with Two Tons of Steel!)
Many of the bands that play at Gruene Hall are also recognized as great talent overseas. This holds true for both Two Tons of Steel and Jason Allen, as well as others. As proof, with more than 90,000 listener votes, Jason Allen, along with Cross Canadian Ragweed were chosen as most promising American Country Music Artists by the listeners of Country Music Box Radio Station in Paris, France. Both Two Tons of Steel and Jason Allen will be at the Hall for a special co-bill on Wednesday, Nov. 23rd. Jason will be celebrating the release of his newly released CD which was recorded live at Gruene Hall in February of 2006. The CD already has a single, "Kickapoo Creek", at # 5 on the Texas Music Chart, and the music, as well as the cover art, are well worth the price! Come to the show and pick up a copy or purchase through Jason's website. Tickets at the door only, so come on out!
Saturday Nov. 25th (tickets at the door only)
James McMurtry first stepped into Gruene Hall in the early 80's, and played his songs for us in the front room. He was a shy, humble young kid, with something to say. 20 odd years later, he's still shy, humble, and has something to say. Fresh off of winning the 2006 Americana Song of the Year and Album of the Year accolades, McMurtry isn't slowing down now. He's recorded a new political tune and you can download it for free off of his website. Just in time for election season, "God Bless America", showcases more of the social commentary that made McMurtry's "We Can't Make It Here" an anthem for people unhappy with the current state of the union. McMurtry and the Heartless Bastards make a stop at the Hall on the Saturday of Thanksgiving Weekend, Nov. 25th. Gruene Hall favorites, The Band of Heathens, open the show. Tickets at the door only for this one.
