March 6th ("subdued" acoustic tour) Get
tickets
Led by singer/guitarist Tommy Malone and accordionist John Magnie, the subdudes draw most of their inspiration from the sounds of their native home, New Orleans. Blending blues, gospel, funk, and R&B with their own harmony vocals, their sound is also notable for the band's substitution of a tambourine player for a drummer. It works. Easily one of the most respected bands on the scene today, not only are their 4 and 5 part harmonies impeccable, but their songwriting is as good as it gets. Their Gruene Hall show on Mar. 6th is a little different this time - billed as the "subdued acoustic show", the boys will put away their electric guitars and perform as an acoustic ensemble. The acoustic 'dudes will no doubt make this into a very special evening. Tickets are limited and we'll have a limited number of chairs on the dance floor. A band that also likes to use lower case letters for their name, and also one of our favorite afternoon acts, porterdavis, will open the show. Get tickets

Mar. 7th (tickets at the door only)
Touring in support of his August '08 release, "Every Night,", Brandon Rhyder is back on the road, juggling fatherhood with his love of music. His soaring vocals hold their own with some of the best to come out of the Nashville music scene and his songwriting is good enough to land him a songwriting deal with Harlan Howard Songs, Inc., one of the most respected publishing houses in Nashville. Come hear Brandon on Mar. 7th! Tickets at the door only for this one.

SUN. MAR. 1ST -
Gurf
Morlix, who's fame dates back to producing Lucinda William's first
albums, and more recently his work with Ray Wylie Hubbard, Slaid
Cleaves, Robert Earl Keen, Tom Russell, Ian McLagan, and Hot Club of Cowtown
to
name a few, has a new solo release. "Last Exit to Happyland" is
an Americana roots album in it's truest form. Sample a few of the new songs
on his website, and come by and
get one from Gurf at his gig. Free show - 12:00-3:30.
SUN. MAR. 15TH -
Songbird
Tish
Hinojosa lives in Germany now, but she'll be back for a Texas
visit in March. She'll be sharing the early afternoon Gruene Hall show
with a slew of friends from the Hill Country.....she'll perform songs from
her latest album, "Our Little Planet", as well as previewing some new songs
from her upcoming release. And of course, there will be time for the old
favorites. Tish Hinojosa and Friends play from 12:30-4:30pm. And it's a
full day from our Hill Country friends - John
Arthur Martinez of Marble Falls, plays the 5-9 pm show following
Tish. No cover charge for either show.
SAT. MAR. 21ST
- Los
Fabulocos' debut
performance at Gruene Hall in February blew the packed house away and left
us begging for more. Hailing from San Diego, CA., Los Fabulocos features
Kid
Ramos, who played for The Fabulous Thunderbirds in the 80's,
sporting a new band that's just as qualified. Their record label,
Delta
Groove Productions, say, " Los Fabulocos play with enough energy
to power a small fleet of lowrider vehicles. It's a fuel that burns full-throttle,
ignited by the heat of soulful guitar and accordion solos that will make
your heart bleed". If you missed them the first time around,
or even if you didn't, come on out. They play a free show from 1-5
pm on Mar. 21st.
SUN. MAR. 22ND -
Grammy
nominated guitarist, singer and songwriter
Bill
Kirchen is one of the fortunate few who can step on any stage and play
those trademark guitar licks which drove the seminal Commander Cody
classic Hot Rod Lincoln into the Top 10 nationwide. His career
has spanned over 30 years and includes performances with Nick Lowe,
Emmylou Harris, Doug Sahm, Elvis Costello and of course, Commander
Cody. He also was named "A Titan of the Telecaster" by Guitar Player
Magazine. Kirchen makes the trip down from his home in Maryland to
play the Sunday of SXSW every year, and
this may be your only chance to catch him at the Hall for awhile. Come
on out - it's a free show!
Catch Leon Russell at Gruene Hall
on Fri. Mar. 27th. Tickets go on sale Feb. 26th @ 1pm.
The
Charlie Shafter Band opens the show!
The latest band to be influenced by Pat Green, Cross Canadian Ragweed,
and Jack Ingram, is making a splash
in the college music scene. The
Casey Donahew Band blends the traditional style of country music
with a little pop and
rock-n-roll, and has a good time doing it. Come see for yourself on
Sat.
Mar. 28th. at 9 pm.
Tickets at the door only for this one.
