The legendary Country
Music Hall of Famer, 72 year old Merle
Haggard, makes his third appearance at Gruene Hall on Wednesday night,
June 3rd. If you've seen him more than once, then you know that there
is no such thing as a typical Merle Haggard concert. He prides himself
on riding the winds of whim on any given night, and is known to not
only sing his hits and fan favorites, but occasionally likes to cover songs
by Jimmie Rodgers, Lefty Frizzell, or Bob Wills - three of his most most
important musical influences. Traveling with him are The
Malpass Brothers, who do vintage country satire, gospel and a little
comedy, and Merle's son, Noel Haggard
who will also make an appearance to kick off the show. Tickets
are on sale now!

San Antonio fav's, The
South Texas Destroyers, take over the remaining Wednesday nights in June.
Led by Americana songwriter James Pardo, and guitar prodigy Will Owen Gage,
the band combines a perfect blend of harmonies, well written country-rock
songs, and phenomenal guitar playing. They showed us what they could
do when they debuted at Gruene Hall in March, and earned standing ovations
for over half of their material. Wednesday nights shows are free
(7-11 pm!)

Houston Marchman's new album "Long Gone" will be available soon and it's a slight departure from the norm. Houston maintains his singer-songwriter roots, but pushes it to the edge. Songs like “Detroit," a blues-rock number, features a duet with Carolyn Wonderland. Other artists who helped shape this album include Cindy Cashdollar on steel, Gabe Rhodes on guitar, Brendon Anthony on fiddle, Tom Gillam on vocals and many more. Come to the CD release show on June 19th and get a copy! (8 pm - cover charge at the door).
The phenomenal Seth Walker's
latest CD "Leap of Faith" has made its way to # 8 on the Americana Music
Chart and is still on it's way up. Produced by the accomplished Gary
Nicholson, who's had over 450 of his own songs recorded by the
industry's top musicans. Seth's new CD is another great collection of soulful
blues and R&B. Get yourself a copy at his Gruene Hall show, or buy
it from his online
store. While you are there, be sure and check out his colorful artwork.
Prints are for sale at a very reasonable price and will look good on any
wall in the house. June 28th (5-9pm – free show)

Gruene Hall pays homage to two friends who have recently passed. Poodie Locke worked as Willie Nelson's road and stage manager for over 30 years. In recent years, he opened Poodie's Hilltop Bar and Grill in Spicewood Tx., which quickly turned into a meeting and jam place for musicians. He was known for his sense of humor, generosity and support of local Austin artists. And, it's a little known fact that Poodie was voted Most Beautiful Baby in Waco in 1952. He wore that crown well.
Stephen Bruton was a musician's musician.....a record producer, tv and movie actor, band leader, singer, songwriter, guitar aficionado, and the sideman of choice for Kris Kristofferson, Bonnie Raitt and many others. After settling in Austin, he established The Resentments, a super group of local musicians who played regularly at the Saxon Pub. Bruton’s own songs were recorded by many well known artists who also became his friends, including Kris Kristofferson, Bonnie Raitt, Hal Ketchum, The Highwaymen, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Little Feat, and Jimmy Buffett. Both Stephen and Poodie were integral parts of the Texas music scene and will be greatly missed.
