Slaid Cleaves - CD Release
***********************
Friday, July 7th
(tiks at the door
only)
Lyle Lovett
did
it (Step Inside This House), Pat Green and Cory Morrow did it (Songs
We Wished We'd Written), and now it's Slaid's turn. His new Rounder-released
CD called "Unsung", is a collection of songs penned by some of his
favorite writers and colleagues, including Adam Carroll, Michael
O'Conner, and Karen Poston. Some of the songs you have heard
at Slaid's live shows already, others are great songs that beg to be heard.
You will get a chance to check them out at Slaid's Gruene Hall CD release
show on Friday, July 7th. Make plans to come on out and get a copy of the
cd, or if you can't wait, you can get them through http://www.slaid.com.
Brian Keane opens the show at
8pm.

Chris Knight - CD Release
***********************
Friday, July 14th (tiks
at the door only)
Still living in the small remote
Kentucky coal mining town where he grew up, Chris
Knight makes a swing over to Texas to promote his 4th CD, "Enough
Rope". The CD is due out July 11th and should be available at
his Gruene Hall CD release show on July 14th. Chris first came to
the forefront of the songwriter scene when he teamed up with Fred
Eaglesmith to co-write, "A Pretty Good Guy". Since then he has earned
accreditation around the US as one of the great songwriters in the Americana
scene. But take that sometimes dark, and often intense songwriting and
put an exceptionally talented band behind it and you've got a band that
rocks. Get your copy of the new CD at http://www.chrisknight.net
or at his Gruene Hall show on the 14th.

Seth Walker - CD Release
***********************
Sunday, July 16th
(no cover charge)
The Carolina's have been good to
Texas over the years, sending us great bands like Marshall Tucker, Uncle
Walt's Band, and recently, The Deschamps Band, and Brian
Keane. So it should come as no surprise that another Gruene Hall favorite,
Seth
Walker, also hails from North Carolina. The surprise though, is that
Seth is a bluesman, which is not a typical Carolina sound. But the mixture
of his Carolina up-bringing, along with his love for the blues, have melded
together into a style that is rootsy and original. Seth's talents as a
singer and a songwriter, as well as his ability to combine it all into
an enjoyable live show, has led us to put him on stage with legends like
Aaron
Neville, Delbert McClinton,The Robert Cray Band, and
Taj
Mahal, all who were as impressed as we are. Seth returns to
Gruene
Hall for an afternoon show on Sunday, July 16th. Look
for his new release, a self-titled CD coming out soon on Pacific Blues
Recording Co..
There's also a slew of good
musicians and bands that originate out of Oklahoma, with Kelly
Willis being one of the first to land in Texas. Originally
from Lawton, Oklahoma, Kelly spent time in North Carolina and Virginia
before settling in Texas. She got her first break when Nanci Griffith
heard her singing at the Continental Club in Austin, and called producer
Tony Brown, who signed her to MCA Records. The rest is history. She's now
married to Bruce Robison
(who plays at Gruene Hall on July 8th) and continues to spend most
of her time being a mother to their 4 kids. She'll make a rare appearance
at Gruene Hall on July 21st. Advance tickets
available now!
Come celebrate Roger's birthday with him at his annual Birthday Bash
on July 22nd!
Tickets on sale at gruenehall.com on Tuesday, July 11th at 1pm!
Most Monday Nights this summer!
The Austin based band who call themselves
The
Heathens, are comprised of four exceptionally talented singer songwriters/vocalists
(Brian Keane, Colin Brooks, Ed Jurdi, and Gordy Quist) and
an outstanding rhythm section (Seth Whitney/bass & Eldridge
Goins/drums). They all have careers of their own, but they have shared
the stage together so often that the Good Time Supper Club (their
original band name) was a natural evolution. Adopting the name "The Heathens"
after a misprint in a newspaper, the show has morphed from a singer-songwriter
swap, into a collective of talented musicians forming one great band. They
are
one of the most talented bands we've seen in a long time, best
described as"The Resentments
meet the subdudes".
You can catch them for free on most Monday nights this summer. Come check
it out!.
