Free Fridays in January!

Friday, Jan. 4th -  Joel Guzman has been called brilliant, extraordinary, and a genius.  He's a Grammy Award winning accordian player who has backed all of the "big guns" including Joe Ely and Los Super Seven, but he also wears the hats of singer, songwriter, producer, and  teacher! Sarah Fox is his partner from the group Los Aztex, who also writes songs and is a vocalist extraordinaire. Andy Hardin, most known for his 20+ years as Tom Russell's sideman and his 3 David Letterman appearances, is guitar player and vocalist in this unique trio.  8pm-11:30pm.

Friday, Jan. 11th - Bret Graham fans need not dispair. There's no Gospel Brunch this month but you can still catch your favorite cowboy singer at this free Friday night show! 7:30pm-11:30pm.

Friday, Jan. 18th -  The South Austin Jug Band return to Gruene Hall with their turbo style of "new grass", a revved-up style of Texas - bluegrass music. These guys are hot pickers. You'll hear unlikely classical songs like "Minor Swing" done Texas style, and other turbo-charged originals and covers from the SAJB.  8pm-11:30pm

Gary Claxton, Erik Hokkanen and Friends -  Last Saturdays!

Saturdays, Dec. 29th, & Jan. 26th

Gruene Hall's best kept secret for country music takes place on the last Saturday of each month when Gary Claxton, Erik Hokkanen, and Friends take the middle stage for the 1-5pm show.  Claxton, the lead singer for Heybale, has smooth as silk vocals that are backed by his hot guitar playing and a variety of special guests, including Tom Lewis (Raul Malo), Kevin Smith (Dwight Yoakam), former Gilley's bandleader Billy Dee, Cindy Cashdollar (Asleep at the Wheel, Van Morrison), and Earle Poole Ball (Johnny Cash).  The band features one of the world's greatest fiddle players, Erik Hokkanen. Old country standards are made fresh, and some great original songs make up the set list.

Larry Lange and His Lonely Knights

Sunday, Jan. 20th

Larry Lange is an exceptional bass player who has backed the likes of Texas favorites Doug Sahm, Paul Ray & the Cobras, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Angela Strehli, Lou Ann Barton and countless others. He spent the 80’s playing bass for Delbert McClinton, and has shared the stage with Willie Nelson, Jesse Guitar Taylor, Billy Joe Shaver, Flaco Jimenez and Jr. Medlow, to name a few. He plays extremely danceable late 50’s early 60’s musick, so come on out for some Sunday afternoon fun. 4pm-8pm   No cover charge!
