Johnny Cooper

Johnny Cooper Fri., Feb. 6th  (tickets at the door only)

Young guitar-slinger Johnny Cooper took to the stage at age 15 and hasn't let up.  Now twenty years old, he looks like he could be fifteen, but plays guitar and can write a song that will match any veteran Texas musician on the scene.  Johnny has had the great fortune of working with and being inspired by many musicians not only on the local level but national level.  He very much enjoys the opportunity to perform with, write with, and just hang around with musicians from all genres and walks of life.  Johnny's career has taken him to: Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana and New Mexico and as far north as Steamboat Springs, CO and as far south as Mexico.  A career highlight has been his trip overseas on a 6-day tour of Ireland in June of '07.  Johnny's ambition and passion for writing and performing creates the focus of making records and touring full time with his Band and when it's all said and done, he's just: "Keepin' it about the music.":  Tickets available at the door only.

.Emory Quinn
.Emory Quinn - Feb. 14thSat., Feb. 14th   (tickets at the door only)

Led by their namesakes, Emory Rigney and Clint Quinn Bracher,  Emory Quinn, (aka EQ) made their Gruene Hall debut in early 2008. They were impressive enough to have worked their way into a weekend spot in the matter of a  year. Their music is original and versatile, ranging from Ryan Adams to Widespread Panic, and their appeal stretches across the board to all age groups. Validation came to EQ when they were picked to join a veteran line-up for the Black Tie & Boots Inaugural Ball in Washington DC on January 20th.  Other Texas musicians picked to play at the historic event include: Tracy Byrd, Jack Ingram, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Kevin Fowler, Dale Watson, Asleep at the Wheel, Kelly Willis, Bruce Robison, Charlie Robison and Sunny Sweeney,....all  veterans of the Gruene Hall stage..  It's the perfect Valentine date, so come on out and have a Valentine's dinner at  The Gristmill, and spend the evening with Emory Quinn. Tickets are available at the door only for this one.

Joe Ely - Feb, 20th    Fri., Feb. 20th   get tickets

"The two were bandmates in the borderland all-star ensemble Los Super Seven, and recently they've been performing as a duo.  Guzman is an underappreciated virtuoso of the squeezebox; his thick chords and fluttery runs fill out the sound of Ely's tenor and acoustic guitar remarkably well. On "Ranches and Rivers," Guzman's accordion answers each line of Ely's vocals so eloquently that it almost sounds like a dialogue.    washingtonpost.com  -- Geoffrey Himes   They return to the Gruene Hall stage on Fri., Feb. 20th.  Get your tickets early for this one!  get tickets

Free Shows in February

Los Fabulocos featuring Kid Ramos simmers up a blend of traditional Spanish and Mexican music, Blues, R&B and Rockabilly delivered with sincerity, honesty and passion. It’s a special brand of roots oriented music that shares much in common with the south of the border stylings of such pioneering acts as Los Lobos, The Hacienda Brothers, and Doug Sahm’s Texas Tornados. Kid Ramos was a seven year member of The Fabulous Thunderbirds and is a featured guitarist in the critically acclaimed all-star revue, The Mannish Boys. Los Fabulocos is fronted by vocalist/accordionist Jesus Cuevas, who spent a decade lending his talents on accordion with the East L.A. based group The Blazers.  This is a "get up and dance" show!  Feb. 15th, 4-8 pm, no cover charge.

Ted Russell Kamp is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, in-demand session player and producer living in Los Angeles. He has been hard at work for years recording, touring and making his own music, as well as working with long time friend and collaborator Shooter Jennings as a member of the band The .357's. His latest album, "Poor Man’s Paradise" is a juicy gumbo of country, Southern-fried rock and soul in the style of Kamp’s lifelong inspirations J.J. Cale, The Band, and Kris Kristofferson. Kamp makes his Gruene Hall debut with his own band on Feb. 21st,  1-5 pm, no cover charge.

When your dad is a founding father of outlaw country and a major musical legend, at some point, you realize resistance is futile: Even if you don’t seek a career in music, eventually, it’s gonna seek you. As it has for Paula Nelson.  2008 marked the CD release of "Lucky Thirteen", the first for Paula and her current band, and on her recent 39th birthday, Nelsons' father gave her his old tour bus, the Honeysuckle Rose, a sure sign that Paula has come into her own. Catch the Paula Nelson Band on Feb. 22nd, 4-8 pm, no cover charge!
