Riding just a bit behind Stoney Larue, Jack Ingram and Pat Green on the Texas Music Chart  isn't a bad place to be. Up and Gone, the latest single from Jason Boland & The Stragglers is currently at #4 on the Texas Music Chart. Take a listen to the song on his myspace site, or better yet, catch him live at Gruene Hall this Friday night. Also making her way up the charts in a big way, newcomer Sunny Sweeney stops by to open the show.  Get tickets

Although the work of new traditionalist singer/songwriter Kelly Willis  earned widespread critical acclaim, commercial success was hard to find and her sound, a smart hybrid of country and rock, simply assimilated both musical styles too well to gain acceptance in either camp. While the '90s drew to a close, Willis inked a deal with Rykodisc. Her fourth album, What I Deserve, appeared in 1999 and it was a breakthrough hit for Willis. Time Magazine hailed the album as "the smartest, most consistently worthwhile country CD" to have been released that year. Since then, family life has taken a priority, and as much as Kelly loves to perform, her kids with hubby country music singer/songwriter Bruce Robison come first. But she still loves to come back to play Gruene Hall when she can, so don't miss her. And she'll have a new album out this summer so stay tuned for more info!  Brian Keane also releases his new single "Forbidden Love" this week and will open the show for Kelly.  Get tickets

Raul Malo has in recent years, been developing a parallel solo career with live performances, initially in and about Nashville but now branching out across the nation. Playing a mixture of classic standards, old and new Spanish songs, Raul gave a performance of a lifetime at his last Gruene Hall show. So good that we decided to bring him back for a 2-night stand. His 2006 release, "You're Only Lonely" has been dubbed as one of the most romantic cd's ever by Music Row Magazine.....it received 4 stars from People Magazine's Critic's Choice, and MSNBC says it's  “A beautiful record, through and through. If you don’t like it, you're a bad person.”  So come see him in person in the concert setting at Gruene Hall.  Advance tickets are going fast.
The Acoustic Heathens, an acoustic version of our own Band of Heathens will open the show on Friday night.

Bob Schneider
Saturday, April 21st  (tickets at the door only)

While former girlfriend Sandra Bullock might have catapulted Bob Schneider  into the spotlight in earlier years, it's his sheer ability to penn good songs and deliver with them with passion that keeps his loyal following growing. His musical influences spread into the far reaches of musical culture--funk, soul, folk, lounge, rap, punk, even some melodic experimentalism. He can draw and paint, he's artistic and different. Bob tours relentlessly, thriving as much on small settings as he did playing arena's opening for the Dixie Chicks last year. Other musicians recognize him as one of the most talented in the business...fans just love to hear him sing. Don't miss him!

Ryan Bingham  opens the show.  Advance Tickets Available Now!

Guy Forsyth, Doug Moreland, Rodney Hayden

Guy Forsyth has a new CD ready for us, and you can pick up your copy this Sunday afternoon, April 8th, when he returns to Gruene Hall to play a  free show from 5-9pm. If you've attended a Sunday afternoon Forsyth show, then you know he's one of the greatest performers out there and shouldn't be missed. You can also hear Guy live on the radio with Mattson Rainer at this weeks Friday Afternoon Club, around 5pm.

The Doug Moreland Show features Doug Moreland, a fiddle, a great band, and a dog. And sometimes the dog sings and plays the fiddle, sometimes not. Regardless, expect some first class entertainment from Moreland, who were just voted in as "Entertainer of the Year" by the local annual awards show, The Texas Music Awards. They'll play a free show on Sunday, April 22nd. Come out and catch the unique Doug Moreland Show!

Before he had turned 20 years old, Rodney Hayden was brought to the forefront with his first cd release on Robert Earl Keen's Rosetta Records. He's penned hundreds of songs and has a voice that will rival any country singer out there. Still in his mid-twenties, Rodney has a new CD out and it's sure to garner great reviews. Come get a copy when he plays a free show on Thursday, April 26th!
