Joe Ely   -  Duo w/ Joel Guzman
************

Joe Ely & Joel Guzman      Friday, April 7th  get tickets

It's always a special night in Gruene when Joe Ely comes to town. Whether it's a reunion with his old rock-n-roll band, a rockin' gig with his electric band, a Flatlanders gig with Jimmy and Butch, or a solo performance at the Gruene Music and Wine Fest, Joe Ely's performances at Gruene Hall are always ranked amongst the best shows we have all year. This time Ely stretches his creativity another notch w/ a duo performance with Grammy award winner Joel (pronounced Jo-El)
Guzman. Joel's Spanish-style accordion sounds mix perfectly with the songs of Joe Ely, and the combination of the two creates an imagery that blends perfectly with the ambiance of the old dance hall. This show will be concert style seating w/ chairs on the dance floor.
Stephen Clair opens the show. Tickets are available on-line, or at the door.

Charlie Sexton
***********************
Charlie Sexton     Saturday, April 8th  (tickets at the door only)

Regarded as a musical prodigy, Charlie Sexton joined Joe Ely’s band at age 13. Then at 15, he recorded “It Ain’t Easy,” a track with legends Keith Richards and Ron Wood. At 16, Sexton recorded his first album, Pictures For Pleasure [MCA]. Sexton was later recruited as a member of Austin’s highly revered Arc Angels,  alongside Tommy Shannon, Chris Layton (from 1992 to 1994),  and Doyle Bramhall II. Later in 1994, Sexton formed his own group, the Charlie Sexton Sextet. However, his greatest personal accomplishment was being invited to play with his prime songwriting influence, Bob Dylan.  (excerpt from The Evolution of  Charlie Sexton by Lisa Sharken - to read the full interview,  click here.

With guitar playing already in his blood, Charlie has learned the art of songwriting from the best there is. Citing his major song-writing influence as Bob Dylan, and his guitar playing influences as Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughn he's now out there making his own way, proving to audiences world-wide that Charlie Sexton is the next major rocker to come out of Texas. Tickets at the door only for this one. Local favorite bluesman Shawn Pittman opens the show.

Radney Foster
***********************
Radney Foster     Friday, April 14th  (tickets at the door only)

Born in Del Rio, Texas, Radney Foster first found commercial success as half of the duo of Foster and Lloyd. He began a solo career in 1991 that centered on his literate approach to country songwriting. Not only is he a great singer/songwriter, but he's also one of the great performers in Americana/country music, and his live shows at Gruene Hall have always
been exciting and passionate, one time going as far as playing outside of the Hall to the late night crowd after closing time. In the same vein of great melodic and literate writing is Brian Keane, who opens the show on April 14th. Tickets available at the door only for this one.

Jason Allen   Llive CD Recording!
******************
Jason Allen      Friday, April 21st   (tickets at the door only)

It's not easy to break into the country music field. The competition with other credible country artists is tough and the number of country bands in Texas alone will make your head spin if trying to figure out who's who. But If you have been to hear Jason Allen on a Sunday afternoon at Gruene Hall, you can probably tell that there's something about Jason that sets him apart from the others. He's got a voice that can remind you of Roy Orbison at times, and his songwriting is original and non-formulated. Combined with a stage presence that says he knows who he is and where he's going, it seems like the perfect time and place for a live recording. Come be a part of the new album when Jason records his show live at Gruene Hall on April 21st. Scheduled for a late summer release, pre-orders for the cd will be sold at the show. Tickets are available at the door only.

Rodney Crowell      w/ special guest Bruce Robison

Rodney Crowell and Bruce Robison     Thursday, April 27th   get tickets

Rodney Crowell and Bruce Robison are two of the most respected songwriters in the current country music scene, their individual credentials much too extensive to list here. Both are recording artists whose songs are sought out by country stars, Americana stars, and many others who are looking for a good song to record. The combination of having these two guys share the Gruene Hall stage on the same night is an Americana  music lovers dream show. Tickets are going fast, so get them soon. The Robert Cray Band
***********************************
Robert Cray      Friday, April 28th  get tickets

Considered one of the "younger" generation of the great bluesmen, 52 year old  Robert Cray was among artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughn and George Thorogood, who received wide radio play while being innovative blues-oriented guitarists and songwriters in the 1980s. The original incarnation of The Robert Cray Band was born in Oregon in 1974. Now with 13 albums, 3 Grammy awards and 6 Grammy nominations, the journey has been fruitful and rewarding. Cray has a clean, sparse, guitar style that relies heavily on touch instead of amp distortion and his smooth as silk vocals make him one of the most expressive vocalists on the contemporary blues scene today. Cray continues to tour, play and record, and heads out for a European tour with Eric Clapton just a few weeks after his Gruene Hall appearance. Tickets for the Gruene Hall show are available now!  Seth Walker, an up-and-coming Austin based swing/blues player and Gruene Hall favorite, opens the show.

The Waybacks / The Small Stars

The Waybacks

Most well known on the East and West coasts, The Waybacks are one of the hottest alt-bluegrass bands on the scene today. With the recent addition of fiddle prodigy (and Gruene Hall's favorite son) Warren Hood, you are in for a Saturday afternoon of stellar and free music that would bring a large cover charge in other parts of the US. If you are a fan of hot picking, great harmony vocals, and innovative songwriting, then you will want to be here on Saturday, April 22nd (1-5 pm) for The Waybacks.

The Small Stars

They call themselves "a Rock & Roll Cabaret musical group from Reno, Nevada but still on leave in Austin, Texas" ....and with stage names like Guy Fantasy, Godfrey McCambridge, and Father Max, the 'Stars are certainly one of the most innovative rock groups that we've seen in a long time. Led by Miles Zuniga (Guy Fantasy), formerly of Fastball, they're driven by the desire to entertain themselves as well as the audience......making for a totally captivating stage show.
Don't miss 'em on Sunday, April 23rd (5-9 pm).
