        April 22nd  get tickets

A self-taught musician of more than 20 instruments, multi-award winning bluesman, Taj Mahal continues to be as innovative and inquisitive as he has been all of his life. It was his search for the root origin of the blues, that Taj journeyed to an island in the Indian Ocean to exchange music wisdom, love, and kinship with performers of the Zanzibar’s Culture Musical Club. A new album called Mkutano, featuring The Taj Mahal Trio  with The Culture Musical Club of Zanzibar in Eastern Africa, emerged from the meeting, You can order this cd, or any of his other numerous collections from his website.  Taj Mahal graces the Gruene Hall stage for the 3rd time on April 22nd, backed by a bass player and a drummer. "The Trio allows the music between voice and guitar to happen with the smallest amount of accompaniment - bass and drums," says Taj. "That leaves a lot of space to be filled". Get your tickets and come soak up some of that space!

Jimmy LaFave

April 23rd   (tickets at the door only)

March 8, 2005 marked the release of LaFave's latest CD, Blue Nightfall.  The stunningly soulful album is LaFave's first in 4 years and his first for Red House Records. Since the release of Texoma, his well received 2001 release, Jimmy has combined his solo dates with the Woody Guthrie tribute tour titled "The Ribbon of Highway - Endless Skyway." Now he's hitting the road with his band, touring heavily behind Blue Nightfall. Catch him at the Hall on April 23rd with the full band and get a copy of the new cd! Tickets at the door only for this one.

Shooter Jennings
***************************
.
April 28th    (tickets at the door only)

Shooter Jennings wears an earring of  an eagle silhouette spread-winged into the letter "W" .....an icon known by anyone who has listened to and loved the original outlaw, Waylon Jennings. It was his father's earring. The blood runs deep in this family, and so does the talent (his mother, Jessi Colter, also had a successful music career), as is apparent in Shooter's new cd, Put the O Back in Country . While Shooter has his rock & roll side to him, even occasionally subbing for Axl Rose w/ Guns 'N Roses, he still feels like it's country music that is in his soul. Come see for yourself, Thursday, April 28th. Tickets are only $8 at the door.

Dr. John

          April 29th  get tickets

Mac Rebennack, aka, Dr. John proudly stands along side of Louis Armstrong and Fats Domino as one of New Orleans’ all-time distinctive voices. The Good Doctor’s dry, gravel cackle is one of the most infectious sounds in both jazz and popular music. Getting a jump start to his career as a member of the Sonny and Cher band during their hey-day in the 60's, he quickly became a first-call session player for the likes of legendary record maker Phil Spector. Back to New Orleans in '68, a swampy cure-all psychedelic medicine man emerged, wearing a feathered head-dress and long colorful robes, calling himself Dr. John Creaux -The Night Tripper.
Almost immediately, everyone was talking about Dr. John. Eric Clapton and Mick Jagger headed a list of celebrities who wanted to guest on his records. Songs like Gumbo, Right Place, Wrong Time, Such a Night and Makin' Whoopee crashed the charts and earned him Grammys. In his 5th decade of making music, Dr. John still keeps a heavy tour schedule and shows no sign of slowing down. Don't miss your chance to catch this legend when he plays Gruene Hall on the 29th. David Holt, formerly of Storyville, opens the show. Tickets
