The Fabulous Thunderbirds

..
Jimmie Vaughan formed The Fabulous Thunderbirds with Kim Wilson in 1974. 12 years later their break-through album “Tuff Enough” was released and with songs like “Wrap It Up” and “Tuff Enough” helping out, the album quickly reached platinum status. In 1990, Vaughn broke off from the T-Birds to pursue his solo career. Wilson also pursued solo projects in the nineties, but reassembled the band again in 1994 to record their 9th album. Following its release, the band returned to actively touring the United States bringing their high-energy brand of roadhouse blues to a whole new generation of blues fans. Gruene Hall has seen most of the incarnations of the T-Birds, all of whom have held up to theT-Bird reputation. Along with Kim Wilson (lead vocals & harmonica), the current lineup of The Fabulous Thunderbirds features Kirk Fletcher (guitar), Nick Curran (guitar & vocals), Gene Taylor (piano/organ), Ronnie James Weber (bass), and Jimi Bott (drummer). The T-Birds have been a main-stay at Gruene Hall for over twenty years, but sometimes they don't get around here often enough, so don't miss them.  David Holt, formerly of Storyville and The Mavericks, opens the show.  get tickets

The brand new Fabulous Thunderbirds CD is now available! "Painted On", released by Tone-Cool/Artemis Records, was produced by Steve Berlin, of Los Lobos, and Kim Wilson. Pick up your copy here, or come get it at the show!

Aaron Neville & his Quintet  featuring Charles Neville
**************************************************************
.
.........Friday, Nov. 4th   get tickets
.
The Neville's have seen their share of sorrow lately. In just a flash, their lives were changed as they watched the city that they love go under water. Throughout their long careers as both solo performers and as members of the group that bore their family name, the Neville's proudly carried the torch of their native New Orleans' rich R&B legacy. Now that the city is gone, at least temporarily, they have found themselves having to relocate their homes and lives, and are having to carry the torch in a different manner. And they are doing it well. The only thing they have on their minds these days is helping their friends and famiies get through this disaster. While this show isn't directly a benefit, they continue to do everything that they can to help spread relief for their brothers and sisters in New Orleans. Aaron Neville comes to Gruene Hall on Nov. 4th  with his fine quintet that features brother Charles on tenor sax . Come show your love and support for some of the greatest musicians the music world has ever known, and don't forget that help is still needed. Please visit The Neville Brothers website and follow the link to make a donation.  You can get your tickets for the Gruene Hall show here.

Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash, Moot Davis & the Cool Deal featuring Pete Anderson, Red Stick Ramblers

The Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash have Johnny's own personal blessing. Head Bastard Mark Stuart started the band almost 10 years ago,and it has since gained such acclaim that John Carter Cash, the actual son of the band's namesake, produced two of the tracks on their cd, Walk Alone. Both songs were recorded at the Cash family studio near Nashville. Not to be confused with a JC cover band, the Bastards are as rebellious as a young Johnny Cash, and they are forging their own trail with their own brand of alt-country-rock originals. Sunday, Oct. 23rd, 5-9 pm (Rich O'Toole opens) no cover!

Country music lovers know Pete Anderson as Dwight Yoakum's producer from the early years and the inventor of the Bakersville sound that made Dwight
famous. Country music connoisseurs know Pete Anderson as a songwriting, guitar genious in his own right, with  5 cd's out on his own. But what Pete Anderson wants you to know is that he's got this great  new country guy named Moot Davis that he likes alot and plays guitar for,  and they'll be here with their band, The Cool Deal on Nov. 6th (4-8 pm) . Moot knocked us dead the first time around. Come catch him on a free show while you can!  To top the afternoon off,  John Arthur Martinez   will open the show.

The fast rising band from Baton Rouge, Louisiana called The Red Stick Ramblers, return to Gruene Hall on Nov. 12th (1-5 pm, no cover), having narrowly escaped the blunt force of Hurricane Katrina.  The Ramblers play a mixture of Cajun fiddle tunes, Western Swing, traditional jazz of the 1920s and 1930s alongside a steadily growing number of tradition inspired originals. They are currently touring in support of their recently released cd, Right Key, Wrong Keyhole.
