Reverend Horton Heat's
sound is self described as "country-fed punkabilly." Their music is a mixture
of country, punk, big band, swing, and rockabilly, all played loud and
energetically with lyrics that are often very humorous. They have achieved
success within the genre and even in mainstream America. Many of their
songs are featured in video games and commercials. Hard core fans have
been following the trio since 1985, when they played their first
gigs in Dallas's Deep Ellum neighborhood. Come out for their Gruene Hall
debut on Nov. 7th. Local favs Devil's
Hollow open the show.
The Rose Hotel is the new album from highly
acclaimed singer/songwriter
Robert Earl Keen, now out on Lost
Highway Records. It's his first studio album in four years and his
15th release. Keen comes from a long tradition of Texas songwriters, of
which he has become one of the Lone Star States' most respected and adored.
Come get a copy and hear a great show from Keen
on Nov. 12th or Nov. 13th. Tickets
available now!
The Checkered Cab Sessions Revisited - Nov. 4th & Nov. 11th
The Checkered Cab Sessions
started as a Wednesday night songwriter series with Kevin
and Dustin Welch
took place in May of this year as a way to raise the money needed
to resurrect Dustin's classic but broke down taxi-cab that he received
as gift from his father Kevin.. The Wednesday nights turned into something
special, and being that "Checker" still needs work, we're bringing The
Welches back for 2 Wednesdays in November. Special guests on Nov. 4th
include the highly acclaimed "The Trisha's| which features Kevin's daughter
Savanah Welch, and on Nov. 11th,
Twilight
Hotel from Canada, will make their Gruene Hall debut. Songwriter
David
Byboth opens both shows with a short set at 7 pm. No cover
charge. Dustin Welch returns on Nov. 18th with
his own band so come on out on Nov.18th too!
Nominees
for this year's Americana Music Awards New & Emerging Artist
of The Year, The Belleville
Outfit are moving up fast, and are already one of the most requested
bands on the festival circuit. They've been busy touring the United States
in support of their latest CD, "Time to Stand", but have made time
to stop by for a Sunday afternoon concert on Nov. 22nd. Catch
them while you can. It's a free show! (5-9 pm)

Gruene Hall
pays homage to two musician friends who have recently passed. Texas music
pioneer, Rusty Wier, lost his battle
with cancer on Oct. 9th. Rusty first played Gruene Hall in the 70's,
bringing some of the first Texas Outlaw music to the old dance hall. Keith
Carper, most recently playing bass for Hal Ketchum in recent years,
passed away from heart failure on Sept. 23rd, only 4 days after he appeared
on stage at Hal Ketchum Gruene Reunion. Keith was a highly respected
bass player/singer on the national and the local music scenes. He first
came to Gruene Hall in the 80's, playing with a number of bands, always
making everyone sound a little bit better. Both will be greatly missed.
Keith's friends will be holding a tribute concert at the Hall on Nov. 17th
to honor him. Please check both Rusty
and Keith's web pages for more
information.
