....Sat.,
Jan 30th - CD Release! (tickets at the door only)
Ray
Wylie Hubbard writes the kind of songs that make you want to ride along
no matter where he's going, because you know it's gonna get strange somewhere
along the way. The title of his new CD, "A. Enlightenment B.Endarkenment
(Hint: There is no C)." could be a hint of some of that strangeness!
You can get a signed copy of it if you pre-order it off of his
website
before it's official release on Jan. 12th. But one cannot live by CDs alone.
Come to his show at Gruene Hall on Jan. 30th to experience the full thrill
ride of singer/songwriter/performer Ray Wylie Hubbard. Tickets available
at the door only.
Free Show Highlights for January
2009 was a big year for Jonny Burke. The year brought him his debut solo release of "The Long Haul" EP, a four month long tour opening for Ryan Bingham and James McMurtry across the nation, and a new outlook on life. The former Dedringer has been playing music professionally since he was in his teens. Now pursuing a solo career, he's put together a new, stellar back-up band. Catch him while you can at his afternoon show on Sat., Jan 2nd, 1-5 pm (free show)
The Saturday Nites are a new band on the scene, though all of the members have been around awhile and played in numerous other bands. Alex Ruiz and Albert Besteiro are members of the super Tex-Mex group, Del Castillo, and the one known as "Plank" hails from numerous bands including a long stint with Bob Schneider. The Saturday Nites take their various influences and combine them into an energetic mix of Americana, rock-n-roll, Tex-Mex, and a pretty ballad or two, which has all of the makings for a great Sunday afternoon of music! Catch their debut appearance at Gruene Hall on Jan. 3rd, 4-8 pm! (free show)
Ted
Russell Kamp is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, in-demand
session player and producer living in Los Angeles. He has been hard at
work for years recording, touring and making his own music, as well as
working with long time friend and collaborator Shooter
Jennings. Kamp's new CD, "Poor Man’s Paradise" is a juicy gumbo
of country, Southern-fried rock and soul in the style of Kamp’s lifelong
inspirations J.J. Cale, The Band, and Kris Kristofferson. It is available
exclusively on his website.
Catch a rare Texas appearance by TRK on Sat., Jan. 9th, 1-5 pm (free
show)
.
..... The Ruby Jane Show - Jan.
3rd (noon-3:30)
Kudo's to Ruby Jane and her mom, JoBelle Smith, for successfully completing the first annual "Ruby Jane's Twelve Days of Christmas." For the first twelve days of December, Ruby Jane and various musical friends played their music for free for disabled vets, shut-ins, nursing homes, and others that needed some Christmas cheer. She no doubt brought smiles to many in need of one this Christmas season, and she deserves a pat on the back for her tremendous effort to help others. The Ruby Jane Show comes back to Gruene Hall on Jan. 3rd, then starting in February, Ruby Jane plays the early show the 3rd Sunday of each month, which is also Market Days weekend! (check our website for times and info) She often brings special guests with her including the phenomenal Warren Hood. Click here to see a video of 3 of the best fiddle players in our state playing together at the Hall.....Ruby Jane, Warren Hood, and Phoebe Hunt from The Belleville Outfit!
Jason Boland & The Stragglers, and The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band are coming in February! Tickets for Jason Boland go on sale Jan. 21st and tickets for The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band go on sale Jan. 28th!
